Mini Local Tournament Once a month, Judy organizes a Saturday afternoon of Scrabble at Diamond Lake. It's never a hardship to attend. The drive is pleasant and the South Shore Saloon, where we play provides a welcoming atmosphere and tasty food. On April 30, five of us, Judy, Peggy ,John, Michael and myself enjoyed an afternoon of play. Of course, we would have liked more members to have come, but the lack of attendance by others didn't keep us from having a grand time. There's always something to learn from each game, and with only five of us, Judy can give us individual tips. ******************************************** Tournament News USA vs Canada Judy Romann, Peggy Crane and John Dill II of the Spokane Scrabble Club traveled to Coeur d'Alene on April 16 to play in the two day Cascadia Challenger. The tournament is a team competition held every two years where a Canadian team tests its scrabble know-how against a United States team. Players must reside in the Pacific Northwest states and provinces. The three Spokane players felt it was a well run tournament and, although Canada was the winner, the Americans made an excellent effort. ****************************************** On March 19th, eight players enjoyed a four round tournament held at Diamond Lake, at the South Shore Saloon. While the locals watched NCAA basketball at the bar, the SSC played in the spacious back room of the restaurant. Two guests, Linda and Melissa, traveled from Moscow, Idaho to play in the mini tournament. Judy, our local champion swept the field and Peggy took a strong second with 3 wins.
